Mini-Poll: St. Louis Person of the Year, 2013
Last week, our readers considered fifty people, ideas, places, organizations, and events that MayorSlay.com felt were important parts of our year in St. Louis. The point of the exercise was to ask St. Louisans to pick five of the biggest “difference-makers” of 2013 to set up this week’s Mini-Poll that will identify a “St. Louis Person of the Year.”
As usual, some of you took issue (sometimes, strong issue) with the idea that we, like the annual Time Magazine process, had considered non-people in our Person Poll. Others complained (correctly) that we had overlooked someone – or thing – of importance. But everybody else (including most of the cranky-pants) made five choices.
The balloting was veryveryvery close. The difference between fifth (i.e., included on the Final Poll) and eighth (i.e., not) in last week’s tally was only a few dozen votes. That is certainly a lesson that Mayor Francis Slay will encourage us to remember in the campaign season.
From the list below, please select the year’s biggest difference-maker in St. Louis.
