Mini Poll: Play Ball

The most hopeful day of the year for many people, including us, is the major-league baseball season opener. That row of zeroes across the stat sheets suggests the possibility that this is The Year.

For St. Louisans, last year was The Year. The 2011 season was an unlikely one. A team that seemed well out of contention in August ending up winning the World Championship in the most thrilling series in recent memory. Many people have walked around on a red-tinted cloud since then.

For the Cardinals, there are some big changes this season. A new manager, a new pitching coach, and a new number three hitter head towards a reformatted playoff system. But, some things will remain pretty much the same, including one of the most popular venues in baseball.

This week’s Mini-Poll asks you to consider what baseball and its Opening Day mean to you and to St. Louis.

“While the Cardinals covered nearly 90 percent of the costs of the entire Busch Stadium project with private funds, the City provided relief from a local admissions tax on tickets, while the state helped with public infrastructure costs to clear and prepare the site for development.
