St. Louis's daily newspaper is one of the nation's clearest and loudest editorial voices against the passage of harsh state and local anti-immigrant legislation, and in favor of sensible federal immigration policies. In an essay last September, MayorSlay.com attributed the newspaper's interest in the issue to its founder, Joseph Pulitzer, one of St. Louis's most illustrious immigrants. And its purchase by Lee Enterprises has hardly muted its voice on this subject.
That's good, because immigration issues, solutions, challenges, and myths is one of the most heated topics in both the race for the White House and the one for the Missouri governor's mansion.
We generally share the Post-Dispatch's editorial opinions on this subject, but not all of you do. Few of the other 145 or so Mini-Polls we have sent out so far have generated the emails and responses pro and con -- that our last immigration poll did. Given its timeliness, MayorSlay.com is offering you a pre-presidential primary chance to express your views on range of immigration-related topics. (We are certain that Mr. Huckabee, Ms. Clinton, Mr. McCain, et al will be studying your responses.)
How likely are you to base your vote in November on a candidate's views on immigration? Would you be willing to carry a national ID card? Do you think St. Louis should be handling immigration matters differently? Tell us your answers to questions like these and we promise not to put a note in your passport.
