The St. Louis Riverfront Trail
MayorSlay.com rode part of the St. Louis Riverfront trail with Great Rivers Greenway District executive director David Fisher on National Ride Your Bike To Work Day. It was a cloudy day, about 65 degrees. We had a great time – and got to wear bike clothes to the office.
The St. Louis Riverfront trail runs about 11 miles along the Mississippi River, from the Laclede Power Building to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. It is paved and mostly flat.
The trail travels along and around the St. Louis floodwall. Sights along the trail include the spooky Laclede Power Building; several bridges and conveyers; fishermen of leisure; a hardworking stretch of St. Louis’ industrial riverfront; a comfort/repair station; the Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing; and a wide range of native flora & fauna, including some woodchucky things.
The trailhead and parking lot are located at the Laclede Power Building, 1246 Lewis Street.
You can reach the trailhead by car from Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard. By bike, come the other way and catch the trail from the Confluence Trail at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge.
This is pretty much everything we know about the St. Louis Riverfront Trail. So, for more information, check out the GRG website.
