An American Place
You only have to walk by Soulard Market on a Saturday morning – or drive up S. Grand almost anytime to see that many of our neighbors have little interest in the stereotypical Midwestern menu of cautious meals prepared with a supermarket’s selection of South American produce, defrozen fish, and warehoused chicken.
To the growing ranks of culinary commandos, a really good meal involves the imaginative preparation of the freshest possible local ingredients. And, cable cooking shows, the influx of new Americans, and the Internet have informed and reinforced the flourishing fresh foodists.
It is no surprise, therefore, that the country’s most widely recognized – and decorated practitioner of the regional ingredients trend has chosen to open a major restaurant here. Larry Forgione’s An American Place is attracting national attention, local diners, and – now – MayorSlay.com to its gorgeous Washington Avenue dining room.
