City Samples 62 Icon: Podcast

A minute after meeting Posh Puppies Rescue president Helen Martin, her dogged devotion is apparent. Her shelter/shop, located on Washington just west of Jefferson, is filled with purebred, cuddly, precious pups for whom Helen is the saving grace. She makes frequent trips around Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois to visit puppy mills and rescue animals deemed too old, too big, too little, or simply "out of fashion." She treats them if they’re sick and places them in forever homes, where they finally get the love they deserve. Helen’s rescue shelter is no-kill and offers adopters who want a specific breed of puppy an alternative to controversial breeding farms and traditional pet stores.

Helen’s favorite sound in St. Louis is a sound that might just work out in your own home.

Listen.
