Because you already read this blog, you know that I highly value the use of social media to enhance civic conversation. Besides this website, I keep up a very active Twitter account (@mayorslay) and I encourage my staff and City directors and agencies to do the same. I - we - learn a lot from this dialogue.

Savvy Mayor Edwin Lee (@mayoredlee) of San Francisco agrees. And that inspired our friendly wager on the outcome of the Giants-Cardinals National League Championship Series match-up. Game One begins tonight, October 14th, at 7:15 pm (Central) at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Games Three and Four will be played in St. Louis. So will Game Five, if it is necessary.

The Mayor of the losing city will change his Twitter profile picture to the logo of the winning team for a day. (There's also a non-specific food bet component, but that is included mostly to satisfy the always- hungry staffers who handled the details of the wagering.)

I think is is a very excellent way to signal our respective personal commitments to using every available tool to listen to you. And it doesn't hurt that Twitter's co-founder, whose headquarters is in San Francisco, is from ... St. Louis. Follow both of us on Twitter, if you want to see what happens.

By the way, I also have a Facebook page - and am (reluctantly, because of the time) considering other media as well.
