It is not a secret that I intend to seek reelection next year. The municipal primary election is in March 2013; filing for the office begins around Thanksgiving and ends after New Year. My name will be first on the ballot.
Each jurisdiction in Missouri has a slightly different procedure for determining ballot position. The St. Louis Election Board assigns it on a first-come, first-served basis when filing opens. In elections past, that often led to supporters for candidates camped out on the sidewalk outside the front door, around the clock in all sorts of weather, waiting in line to be first. These days (happily), it means asking a campaign staffer to hold a place in a line during the Board headquarters' business hours.
I did that two weeks ago.
