Census Lessons

Tomorrow, US Census Bureau Director Robert Graves will join me, Rep. Lacy Clay, Dr. Kelvin Adams, and other local officials at Gateway Elementary to introduce a new national program that will incorporate information about the upcoming Census into school lesson plans. The purpose of the lessons is to enlist kids as reminders to their families to find, fill-out, and return US Census forms next year.

I suspect that the congressman and the director will find an audience that already understands how important it is to have an accurate count of who is sitting in a room, a school, a city, and a state. Roll call, getting a test, and receiving recognition for accomplishment are all lessons that are familiar to students. The Census works the same way.
