March of the Penguins
Two recent stories from other parts of the state caught my eye. A news account from Reed Springs, MO, notes that a fifth grade class there has announced plans to lobby the Missouri General Assembly to designate the crayfish as the official State Invertebrate. Meanwhile, a wire service story from Savannah, MO, reports that a librarian has moved a children’s book about two male penguins that raise a baby penguin to the nonfiction section of two branch libraries after complaints that the book had "homosexual undertones." I suggest that the librarians of Savannah would be better candidates for State Invertebrate than the crayfish.
