Roosevelt's New Mercy Clinic
I recently attended the launch of a new in-school health clinic at Roosevelt High School. The clinic will use tele-medicine technology, and have a full-time nurse practitioner and a mental health professional on staff. It will serve Roosevelt students, their dependents, and the school’s staff. Sometime soon, it will add dental care.
This is a very big deal.
Many of Roosevelt’s students face significant barriers to completing high school and moving on to college, training, or useful employment. Access to quality healthcare removes one of those barriers. And studies show that healthier students are more prepared to learn and miss less school.
This is a model program that many urban schools will watch. I thank Mercy Hospital and Boeing for supporting the experiment. And I congratulate the St. Louis Public Schools and Roosevelt for hosting it.
